    Unique Winter Activities in BC

As you consider where to go this winter, don't shy away from British Columbia just because it's cold. There are countless fun winter activities to do in our neck of the woods this time of year. Here are 5 of our favorite winter activities that you'll find unique to this area of the world!

    Snow Shoeing.jpg

Did you know that snowshoeing has become one of the fastest-growing winter sports in North America? British Columbia is the perfect place to try it out. The lightweight, flexible shoes make this activity accessible for people of all ages. Whether you’re wanting to get a great cardio workout, explore the backcountry on foot, or simply get some fresh air, snowshoeing is one experience you won’t want to miss.

    Ice Climbing

If you’re looking for a frozen thrill, give Ice Climbing a try. Be warned though, this activity is not for the faint at heart. While climbing experience is not required, some level of physical fitness is necessary for such an undertaking. These action-packed guided tours are lead by the Mountain Skills Academy & Adventures out of the Whistler area of BC. If you think you’re up for it, this would be the experience of a lifetime!

    Dog Sledding

Looking for a less labor-intensive way to view the Canadian scenery? Cozy up in the sled and let a team of siberian and Alaskan huskies guide you through the fresh fallen snow in backcountry British Columbia. The guides allow you to sit back and enjoy the ride, but if you are a little more hands-on, they're willing to turn over the reigns and teach you the calls to lead the dog team!

    Cross Country Skiing

You can’t visit Canada during the winter and not hit the slopes! Ski where Olympians have gone before you at Whistler Olympic Park. This high-energy way to explore the countryside will provide great views and a great workout. Consider this your most interactive tour yet!

Here’s one activity that will provide fun for your entire family-- all experience levels considered! Beginners can sled on marked and groomed terrain paths, while more experienced sledders can take on steeper slopes with fresh powder. Whichever category suits you, you’re sure to enjoy one of BC’s 70 snowmobile clubs. This popular activity attracts visitors from all over the world!
